Two new locally owned and operated food service establishments, representative of the reawakening of New Haven as a restaurant and entertainment center, will hold a joint grand opening on Monday, January 22 at 2 p.m.
Whimsels and Koffee? Too are two establishments with interesting, attractive and sophisticated offerings of the type found in New York or Boston. The introduction of these businesses to the Broadway shopping district also reflects the ongoing fulfillment of a plan conceived after two years of work involving Yale and the community, and part of University Properties’ overall economic development plan.
Whimsels, 280 York Street, was created by John and Lupi Robinson. The store has a high level of design and decor with a unique menu of various flavors of crepes filled with main course ingredients representing many different ethnic cuisines or dessert items such as ice cream, fruit or chocolate. Whimsels offers the economical menu pricing and quick service expected of a fast food restaurant, along with the first-class d cor, food flavor and quality consumers expect from a chef-operated establishment.
Koffee? Too, 276 York Street, is the second store for Lee and Tracy Jackson, who also own and operate Koffee? on Audubon Street. Their high-quality coffee and bakery products have proven extremely popular on the East side of town and are now available at this new address. The owners also plan to add live music eventually, thereby expanding the entertainment opportunities for the Broadway district.
Yale University and New Haven dignitaries will be present at the celebration of these great additions to the resurgent economic development of the city.
