Yale Holds Open House to Launch 300th Birthday Celebration
Yale University will hold a campus-wide open house for the public on Saturday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At 10:30 a.m., University President Richard C. Levin and New Haven Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. will preside at a welcome ceremony on Hewitt Quadrangle on Wall Street between College and High Streets.
The Yale Band will be playing at the welcoming ceremony and a 300-pound birthday cake in the shape of Yale’s “Old Campus” will be cut and shared with guests.
Media members are welcome to cover any and all events during the day. There will be a media tent on Wall Street near the corner of College Street where Yale staff will provide information about the various events and facilitate interviews.
The event, Opening Yale 300, is the launch of a yearlong celebration of Yale’s 300th anniversary. The day will feature more than 100 activities, performances, talks, tours and exhibits showcasing art, science, medicine, athletics, college life and more.
