Yale Expert on World Trade and the Environment Speaks About the Implications of the Protests in Seattle
Yale Environmental Law Professor Dan Esty – considered the foremost expert on the issue of trade and the environment – was in Seattle this week for the World Trade Organization ministerial meeting. He is back in Connecticut and available for interviews about the implications of the protests in Seattle.
Esty – who also is associate dean of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies – said the protest “is a watershed in raising consciousness about world trade and the need to insure that trade liberalization efforts take on other values that people of the world consider to be important.”
Esty was special assistant to U.S. Environmental Protection Administrator William Reilly and coordinated the agency’s entry into the international trade arena. He also was the chief EPA negotiator for the environmental aspects of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Reporters and producers interested in arranging an interview with Esty can contact the Yale Office of Public Affairs.
