Police Captain Takes Leadership to the Street
A veteran police captain is taking what he learns from a unique program offered by Yale University and the city of New Haven to the city’s streets, putting to work leadership and management skills in his daily supervision of the uniform patrol division.
Capt. Francisco Ortiz, who oversees about 300 patrol officers, is among twelve managers from Yale and 14 from the city, including Sgt. Michael Pachesa, downtown district manager, who are attending five workshops held on the Yale campus led by experts from the city and the University’s faculty, staff and alumni. Managers representing fire, human resources, public works and parks and recreation departments are also participating.
Ortiz will be available for brief interviews and photo opportunities on Friday, October 8, 1999 at 12 noon during a lunch break at Luce Hall, Room 202, 34 Hillhouse Avenue.
Reporters and photographers who plan to attend at Luce Hall should contact Thomas R. Violante, Office of Public Affairs, 432-1345, for arrangements prior to arrival at Luce Hall.
