Children laughing, hamburgers sizzling and students being dunked in a water tank will all be part of Communiversity Day 1998 at Yale University on Saturday, April 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will be held on Old Campus, High St.

“Discover. Learn. Play. Communiversity Day 1998” is the theme for this year’s festival, which is free and will include a carnival for children, KidsFest by JumpStart, community exhibits, live entertainment and a cookout.

More than 1,500 community members attended Communiversity Day 1997 and close to 2,000 participants are expected this year. Residents of New Haven and its surrounding municipalities are invited.

In conjunction with Communiversity Day, Jumpstart’s second annual Children Across New Haven will take place on the New Haven Green. It includes a learning fair with over 30 imaginative activity areas for children aged 3-6 and their families.

Started in the early 1980s as a carnival, Communiversity Day has grown to become an annual festival hosted by students of Yale University to celebrate the relationship between the University and its community.

Coordinated by the members of Alpha Phi Omega (APO), a national service fraternity, Communiversity Day is sponsored by JumpStart, Dwight Hall, the Ethnic Community Race Council (ECRC) and the Office of New Haven Affairs.
