Yale University will hold a news conference Friday, December 20 at 4 p.m. at the Colony Inn to announce plans for the former Jewish Community Center building in New Haven’s Chapel West District. The 60,000-square-foot building at 1156 Chapel Street has been vacant for a decade and is in dilapidated condition.

Yale will announce an arts-related use for the building that will make it a vibrant part of an important New Haven neighborhood and greatly increase the revenue the property produces for the City of New Haven.

Yale University Secretary and Vice President Linda Koch Lorimer will detail Yale’s plans at the news conference. New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr., Evelyn Schatz, President of the Chapel West Special Services District, and others will participate in the announcement in the Colony Inn’s Ballroom East. The Colony Inn is located at 1157 Chapel Street, across the street from the building that Yale will be renovating.
