Preserving Benny Goodman on film: Irving S. Gilmore Music Library
The “King of Swing” is getting a second life on the silver screen through an extensive preservation project at Yale’s Irving S. Gilmore Music Library. In 2015 more than a hundred of jazz legend Benny Goodman’s personal film reels — including never-before-seen footage of rehearsals, diplomatic tours to Thailand and Brussels, and home movies with the likes of Harpo Marx — were saved from irreparable damage. This special clip shows Goodman at the World's Fair in Brussels (1958), on tour in Thailand (1956), and performing on NBC’s “Swing into Spring” (1958), sponsored by Texaco.
