Soderstrom honored for work converting research into new capital ventures

Jon Soderstrom, managing director of the Office of Cooperative Research, was honored with the 2014 Bayh-Dole Award during the 2014 Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) annual meeting.

Jon Soderstrom, managing director of the Office of Cooperative Research, was honored with the 2014 Bayh-Dole Award during the 2014 Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) annual meeting.

The prestigious award is given annually by AUTM in recognition of an individual’s efforts to promote intellectual property activities on behalf of the university and non-profit community. 

Since joining the office in 1996, Soderstrom has converted Yale’s scientific research into more than 25 new ventures that raised over $450 million in professional venture capital.

An expert in technology transfer process and economic development, Soderstrom is frequently asked to teach seminars and lectures all over the world. 

He was the 2008 president of AUTM, and has testified before Congress and as an expert witness on patent infringement cases. He is also a founding board member and past president of the Association of Federal Technology Transfer Executives, as well as a member of the Licensing Executive Society.

AUTM is a non-profit organization with an international membership of more than 3,200 technology managers and business executives. AUTM members — managers of intellectual property, one of the most active growth sectors of the global economy — come from more than 300 universities, research institutions, and teaching hospitals as well as numerous businesses and government organizations.
