Yale’s first NROTC freshmen in 40 years

The Yale Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit conducted its Freshman Orientation training in Newport, Rhode Island, Aug. 11-18.  The students who attended represent the first class of Yale NROTC midshipman since 1972.  Throughout the week-long orientation, students experienced early morning physical training, drill instruction, sailing instruction, and courses on Navy and Marine Corps customs and courtesies, core values, and the NROTC program requirements. Upon completion of Freshman Orientation, students were recognized in the war veterans' memorial in Woolsey Hall before an audience comprised of  family members, Yale faculty, and  alumni. Guest speakers included Mary Miller, dean of Yale College, and Tom Opladen ’66, president of the Yale Veterans Association.
