A holiday feast

Yale freshmen were treated to a holiday dinner on Dec. 8 in a festively decorated Commons. Goodies — from Christmas tree cookies to a giant challah bread to a colorfully frosted cake in the form of presents — were in abundance, and the dining hall was adorned with a giant gingerbread house, ice sculptures, lights, and nutcrackers, among other special decorations. The dinner, a tradition that allows the students to join together for a formal holiday meal and a break from their studies, involves long preparation for staff in Yale's Bake Shop and Commons dining hall, who also enjoy the chance to show off some of their cooking and baking sparkle.
