International expert to lead Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine

Dr. Radek Bukowski has been named director of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, and chief of maternal fetal medicine at the Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Bukowski comes to Yale from the University of Texas at Galveston, where he is professor of obstetrics and gynecology.  He completed medical school and OB/GYN residency at the University of Poznan in Poland and received his Ph.D. from the Freie Universitaet Berlin.  He then completed a second residency at the Eastern Virginia Medical School and a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical branch at Galveston.  

Bukowski’s research focuses on preterm birth, stillbirth and developmental programming.  His publications have appeared in numerous high impact journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), PLoS Medicine and the British Medical Journal. Bukowski’s work has been supported by six NIH grants.  He is an internationally recognized expert in Maternal Fetal Medicine, receiving numerous awards including the prestigious March of Dimes award for Best Research in Prematurity. 

Starting Sept. 1, Bukowski began leading the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine as the unit expands its clinical practice, educational offerings, and research programs.
