Connecticut Open tennis tournament seeks volunteers

The Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies is seeking volunteers for the next tournament, scheduled to be held Aug. 18-26.

A variety of roles are available, including ball persons, in-stadium ushers, player transporters, and general volunteers. All volunteers receive a free uniform (which includes two t-shirts, a hat and a pullover), tickets, meal vouchers, photo credential, and parking. Additionally, volunteer time can be used toward community service hours.

Those interested in becoming a ball person must attend training sessions on July 15, July 16, Aug. 5, and Aug. 6. All training sessions will be held at the Yale University tennis courts 9-11:30 a.m. First and second-year ball persons must attend two of the four training sessions. Ball persons with three or more years of experience, including 2017, need to only attend one. To be a ball person, one must be at least 12 years of age and able to commit for the first five days of the tournament.

Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to visit the tournament website or send email. Eligible ball persons should send email. For more information, call Jean Walker at 203-776-7331, ext. 5842.

The Connecticut Open will take place at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale. For tickets and additional details, visit the website or call 855-464-8366.
