Listen to the conversation Imaging New Haven: Engaging the City — a discussion about the city of New Haven and how one engages with it, learns from it, and tries to capture it. The conversation is presented in collaboration with the exhibition “Candy/A Good and Spacious Land,” and is offered in conjunction with the International Festival of Arts & Ideas. Free. See a performance of Black Girl: Linguistic Play, brought to New Haven by the International Festival of Arts & Ideas. According to the producers, award-winning choreographer Camille A. Brown “uses the rhythmic play of social dance, double dutch, steppin’, tap, and live original music to represent a nuanced spectrum of black womanhood in a racially and politically charged world.” University Theatre, 222 York St. 8 p.m.

Bring the family to the Children’s Film Festival — featuring award-winning independent short films for young audiences. Audience members may come and go as they please. Walk through the Refacing New Haven exhibit presented by HI Crew. Composed of plywood cube structures resembling a miniature city block, placed strategically throughout the Green, the temporary piece of public art explodes with colorful graffiti-esque styles and design. Free. International Festival of Arts & Ideas, New Haven Green. All day. Saturday and Sunday.
Relive history during a tour aboard the Amistad, Connecticut’s flagship, as part of International Festival of Arts & Ideas, Visitors must be a minimum of 6 years old, and all children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Free (register in advance). Long Wharf Pier (off Long Wharf Drive). Saturday and Sunday tours at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.
Gather on the Green with the 108 Monkeys Yoga company and commit to compassion and empathy by engaging in synchronized movement and breathing in a shared space — the great urban outdoors. All levels of experience and ability are welcome. Please bring your own mat; only a limited number are available. Part of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, New Haven Green, Hospitality Lounge. Free. 11 a.m.
Help to build Box City. Young city planners are invited to construct buildings and neighborhoods out of craft supplies and boxes (supplies provided). This interactive activity explores basic principles of design, sustainability, and urban planning, and is part of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas. Free. Come together to hear the Jimmy Greene Quartet and New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Greene, a Grammy nominated saxophonist, composer, arranger, and Connecticut native, wrote and recorded the album “Beautiful Life” to celebrate the life of Ana Márquez-Greene, his 6-year-old daughter who was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. He will be joined by musicians from the New Haven Symphony Orchestra for an evening of reflective, celebratory music. International Festival of Arts & Ideas, New Haven Green, KeyBank Stage.
