Research note: Hospice care curbs end-of-life ills

Older adults approaching the end of life suffer a range of limiting symptoms such as fatigue, depression, and anxiety. It has been unclear how much hospice care eases those symptoms. A study led by professor of geriatrics Dr. Tom Gill shows that symptoms decrease significantly for individuals upon start of hospice care, suggesting that earlier referrals to hospice may be beneficial.

A study led by professor of geriatrics Dr. Tom Gill shows that symptoms decrease significantly for individuals upon start of hospice care, suggesting that earlier referrals to hospice may be beneficial. It published early online in The American Journal of Medicine. First author Shayan Cheraghlou conducted the research as a participant in the START@Yale program, prior to his enrollment in Yale School of Medicine.
