Audiences members at the Yale Band’s next concert, on Friday, April 15, will be treated to an evening of music celebrating the music and dances of the Mediterranean in “A ‘Classic’ Concert: From Rome to Athens.”

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Woolsey Hall, 500 College St.

The program will feature “Dances from Crete” by Adam Gorb, which sends listeners on a musical tour of Crete through four movements, from a portrait of Minotaur in the first movement to a Greek dance in the fourth; “Andreas Makris’ “Aegean Festival Overture,” which blends classical form and Greek folkloristic elements; and “Greek Folk Song Suite” by Franco Cesarini, a collection of tunes based on Greek folk music. The Yale Band will perform this latter work in Athens, Greece, in June.

Also on the program are “October” by Eric Whitacre, which captures the transition from fall to winter; Michele Mangani’s “Urbino,” which was commissioned to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Urbino Wind Orchestra (and which the band will perform in Urbino, Italy, in May); and Julian Work’s “Stand the Storm,” an untraditional march composed in a compilation of meters and machinations.
