Don’t stay up all night studying or working on that killer project. Instead, take a break and join the #SleepRevolution on Friday, April 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Commons in the Schwarzman Center, corner of Grove and Prospect streets.

There, you can de-stress, eat, enter to win special prizes, and get a free copy of Arianna Huffington’s new book, “Sleep Revolution,” which promotes the importance of healthy sleep.

This campus-wide event is free and open to undergraduate, and graduate and professional school students, as well as staff.

Participants will learn tips and tricks for better sleep by Yale sleep experts such as Dr. Meir Kryger, who will share his 13 “Sleep Commandments,” and Victoria Pak, who studies the effect of sleep on the brain.

The evening will also feature activities such as yoga demonstrations, tips for making the most of power naps, and aromatherapy. Regular raffle drawings will take place throughout the evening to announce winners of Sleep Revolution kits from the Huffington Post, which include everything needed for a good night’s sleep: Bluetooth speakers, a Spotify subscription, Land’s End pajamas, gel eye masks, and more.

Acing exams might not depend so much on how well you study, but on how well you sleep, say experts. Research has shown that over time, the all-nighters, hours on the laptop or smart phone, and other poor sleep habits can add up to an unhealthy sleep pattern that robs the body of the opportunity to rejuvenate and repair itself. Sleep is crucial to our creativity, intelligence, cognitive ability, and mental and physical health.

Exploring your own relationship with sleep at Yale’s Sleep Revolution event can be a first step to making healthier choices, say the organizers of the event, which is sponsored by The Huffington Post, Yale Office of Public Affairs & Communications, the Office of the Secretary and Vice President for Student Life, Student Wellness at Yale Health, and Being Well at Yale.
