Beinecke Spring Exhibitions

Come to the opening reception for Beinecke’s Spring Exhibitions. The exhibitions include: “Treasures from Japan in the Yale University Library,” “Fun on the Titanic: Underground Art and the East German State,” and “Casting Shadows: Integration on the American Stage.” Free.  Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, 121 Wall St. 5 p.m.

Don Juan

See the play Don Juan, by Molière, directed by Andrej Visky. In the classic tale, Don Juan travels the world, seeking pleasure through romantic conquest. At the heart of this darkly comic 17th century play lies a modern terror — that there is no God, and no ultimate meaning beyond the appetites of the flesh. Gymnatics

Cheer on the Yale gymnastics team at the Don Tonry Bulldog Invitational. Yale will host Bridgeport, Southern Connecticut State University, and Rhode Island College. Free. Payne Whitney Gym, 70 Tower Pkwy. 1 p.m.

Book art

Attend a panel discussion featuring artists whose works are on view in the Yale University Art Gallery’s exhibition “Odd Volumes: Book Art from the Allan Chasanoff Collection” and Artspace’s CT “(un) Bound.” The talk, Conversation, Cover to Cover: A Discussion among Book Artists, will be followed by an artist- and curator-led walk to Artspace for a closing reception. Join the Angles on Art Tour: Literary Art, led by Yale student Madeline Ludwig-Leone, who will discuss the ways in which the written word has inspired five different artists. Free. Yale University Gallery of Art, 1111 Chapel St. 3:30 p.m.

Take an interactive Highlights Tour and learn about Yale University Art Gallery’s history, architecture, and encyclopedic collection.
