Thousands on campus join in first Founders Day celebration

“We, today, are Yale. We are the guardians of its history, but we are also the makers of its tradition,” said President Peter Salovey on Oct. 14 on Cross Campus, where more than 2,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of Yale gathered in the late afternoon to celebrate a new Yale tradition, Founders Day.
Yale celebrated the anniversary of the university's creation 313 years ago with its first Founders Day celebration. In addition to the public activities, President Peter Salovey paid visits to departments across campus during the day, where he talked about the importance of fostering connectedness across campus and thanked those who work to keep the institution running smoothly every day.
