Campus celebration of Founders Day to be held Oct. 14

Three-hundred-and-thirteen years of history, highlights of the campus today, and hopes for the future will be the focus of a new campus celebration — Founders Day — to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The event, which organizers trust will become an annual tradition, occurs close to the anniversary of the enactment on Oct. 9, 1701, of “An act for liberty to erect a Collegiate School” by the colonial assembly in Connecticut, the beginnings of what has became the Yale University of today.

“President Salovey’s inauguration last year had a series of events to bring the campus together and to encourage students, faculty, and staff to explore Yale,” says Heather Calabrese, director of university events. “We hope Founders Day will be a yearly event to further that spirit of connection and celebration.”

This year’s events will include an open house at the President’s House 11 a.m.-3p.m.; the display of the Yale mace, and the president’s ceremonial collar and robe in the Presidents Room of Woolsey Hall (also 11 a.m.-3 p.m.); and pop-up student performances throughout the day around campus. It will culminate in a Founders Day Celebration on the Cross Campus 4:30-6 p.m. featuring more performances, remarks by President Salovey, photo booths, and festive fall food from Yale Dining.

Further information can be found online at the Founders Day website, which will be updated with more details as the Oct. 14 celebrations approach.
