Two former Connecticut Open champions, 2012 winner Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic and defending champ Simona Halep of Romania, will play back-to-back matches tonight (Tuesday, Aug. 19) — and Yale affiliates can watch the action for just $5.

Two former Connecticut Open champions, 2012 winner Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic and defending champ Simona Halep of Romania, will play back-to-back matches tonight (Tuesday, Aug. 19) — and Yale affiliates can watch the action for just $5.

The Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies will continue through Aug. 23 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale on Derby Ave.

Halep will begin her title defense against Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia at 7 p.m. Kvitova follows with a match-up against Ekaterina Makarova, the world No. 18 who was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon just last month.

Kvitova is fresh off her second Wimbledon title earlier this summer, while in the past 15 months, Halep has won eight titles, was a French Open finalist, and became the world’s  No. 2-ranked player The two players met in last year’s Connecticut Open final.
