Sebastian Hassan John Koochaki awarded 2014 Russell Henry Chittenden Prize

Sebastian Hassan John Koochaki was awarded the Russell Henry Chittenden Prize during 2014 Class Day on May 18.

The Russell Henry Chittenden Prize is awarded annually to that Senior in Yale College majoring in the natural sciences or in mathematics who ranks highest in scholarship. This year’s prize is awarded to Sebastian Hassan John Koochaki of Berkeley College.

Sebastia Koochaki was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in his senior year and graduates summa cum laude with Distinction in his major, receiving a joint BS/MS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He has earned 38.5 credits, 37.5 of which are straight A. 

Mr. Koochaki has done extensive research at the Yale Stem Cell Center, and was awarded a Yale Science Scholars Grant. In addition to writing for Yale Scientific, the oldest college science publication in the nation, he has co-authored two papers in peer-reviewed journals. Mr. Koochaki has volunteered with Yale’s Hunger and Homelessness Action Project, serving as co-director this past year. He has balanced his extensive scientific and community service endeavors with his devotion to music and to his university, by being a member of the Yale Precision Marching Band.

In recognition of his indefatigable commitment to academic excellence, Yale College proudly awards the Russell Henry Chittenden Prize to Sebastian Hassan John Koochaki.
