Transitions

Visit the student exhibition Transitions, featuring artists from Yale Divinity School, the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, and the New Haven community. Free. Institute of Sacred Music, 409 Prospect St. 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Calligraphy

Learn about calligraphy — its interaction with space and the beauty of its movement.  Japanese calligrapher Kohei Okamoto will give a brief talk followed by a demonstration. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Byōbu: The Grandeur of Japanese Screens.” Free. Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel St. 12:30 p.m.

Crew

Get outside and watch the Yale crew teams compete on the Housatonic River. The men’s heavyweight crew will host Dartmouth (all day); the women’s crew will host Dartmouth and Boston University (all day); and the men’s lightweight crew will host Columbia and Penn 9 a.m-1 p.m., and Cornell 4-7 p.m. Free. Gilder Boathouse, 280 Roosevelt Dr., Derby.

Up the Hill Down the Mountain

See The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain — a film that complements special exhibitions at Yale Center for British Art. When proud Welsh villagers learn that their “mountain” is actually a hill, they set out at once to transform it into a mountain. Free. Yale Center for British Art, 1080 Chapel St. 2 p.m.
