’Tis the season for giving, and it’s a good time to remember that the most precious gift you can give to a child is a bright future.
United Way’s “Give Every Child a Chance” initiative is working to do just that: to ensure that at-risk children in the Greater New Haven community receive the quality care and early education that sets them on a path to succeed in school and in life.
Research has shown that children who do not have access to high-quality early education are 25% more likely to drop out of school, 50% more likely to be placed in special education, 60% more likely to never attend college, and 70% more likely to be arrested for a violent crime.
Through programs like “Success By 6,” the United Way helped more than 800 children from birth to age 3 access high-quality early care and education opportunities in the last fiscal year. With the support of the Yale community, United Way also connected more than 450 parents to educational programs about child development, where they learned how best to support their child’s learning.
You can help United Way-supported organizations to change the odds for the at-risk children in our community — and to provide much-needed education, health, and support services for area families and individuals — by giving to the Yale-United Way campaign.
