The Yale Center for British Art will celebrate Art Museum Day on Saturday, May 18 with tours, a children’s activity guide, and a discount in the museum shop.

The annual event is organized by the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) and coincides with International Museum Day.

“We’re delighted to be part of this special event, which emphasizes the value of museums in their communities and encourages audience engagement,” says Amy Meyers, director of the Yale Center for British Art.

The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will include an architecture tour at 11 a.m., featuring highlights of the landmark building designed by Louis I. Kahn, as well as a 1 p.m. tour of the current exhibition “Edwardian Opulence: British Art at the Dawn of the 20th Century.” The museum shop will offer a 10% discount on all purchases that day, and the exhibition publication that accompanies “Edwardian Opulence” will be available at a special discounted price of $59.95 (regularly $75).

The Yale Center for British Art, located at 1080 Chapel St., is free and open to the public.

A comprehensive list of participating art museums can be found on the AAMD website. Last year, more than 120 museums throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico participated in Art Museum Day. The annual global celebration of International Museum Day is organized by the International Council of Museums.
