Yale Center for British Art presents annual student-curated exhibition
The Yale Center for British Art’s seventh annual “Art in Focus” exhibition — curated by undergraduates in the center’s student program — will focus on artists working in St. Ives, Cornwall, during the mid-20th century.
“Art in Focus: St. Ives Abstraction” will explore how St. Ives inspired and influenced the artists who visited there and made it their home.
The show will feature 19 works by 10 artists including Trevor Bell, Sandra Blow, Terry Frost, Barbara Hepworth, Patrick Heron, Roger Hilton, Peter Lanyon, John Minton, Ben Nicholson, and John Wells.
The student curators of the exhibition are Juliana Biondo ’13, Hannah Flato ’14, Kathryn Kaelin ’15, Daniel Roza ’15, and Alexander Shaheen ’13. Cassius Clay ’13, provided editorial support. The students — led by Linda Friedlaender, curator of education, and Jaime Ursic, assistant curator of education — were given curatorial guidance by Imogen Hart, assistant curator of exhibitions and publications; Rosie Ibbotson, postdoctoral research associate; and Cassandra Albinson, curator of paintings and sculpture.
“Art in Focus: St. Ives Abstraction” — which will be on display through Sept. 29 —will open with talks by the student guides on Friday, April 12, at 4 p.m. Tours of the exhibition will be offered on Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14, at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
