‘In Line’: Dancing in New Haven

In this video, freshmen Gracie White and Christian Probst, members of Yale Dancers, perform their version of Robert Skoro’s song “In Line” around the city of New Haven, which is celebrating the 375th anniversary of its founding this year.

The pair first presented “In Line” at the 2012 fall performance of Yale Dancers, the University’s oldest student-run dance organization. The students have since performed it in numerous venues, including at TedxYale, which was held Feb. 23 at New Haven’s Shubert Theater

The locales for this video include Alexander Liberman’s painted rolled steel structure “On High” (1979), which sits in front of the Robert N. Giaimo Federal Building in downtown New Haven; the Yale University Sculpture Garden on York and Chapel streets (a space that is free and open to the public); and Lighthouse Point Park at the eastern point of New Haven Harbor.

White does not have a traditional dance background, but grew up performing in a circus. She trained aerials and hand-balancing with Circus Juventas from 2005 though 2011, and then took a gap year to work professionally in New York with Company XIV.

Probst, on the other hand, started taking tap, ballet and jazz lessons when he was 7 at the Krupinski Academy of Dance. Although tap dancing still remains his favorite form, he says he enjoys excelling in all areas of dance.
