Panel at Yale to look at doping in competitive cycling

A panel discussion on doping in professional cycling — featuring former cycling professional Floyd Landis, cycling team manager Jonathan Vaughters, U.S. Anti-Doping Agency head Travis Tygart, and bioethicist Thomas H. Murray — will take place Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Levinson Auditorium of Yale Law School, 127 Wall St., 4:30–6 p.m.

Titled “Spinning Our Wheels? Doping in Professional Cycling,” the free and public panel will be moderated by Jacob Hacker, who is the Stanley B. Resor Professor of Political Science at Yale and director of the Institution for Social and Policy Studies (ISPS). He is also an amateur bicycle racer.

Panelists will examine the use of performance-enhancing drugs in competitive cycling from a variety of angles: how the practice developed; how it became exposed as endemic to the sport; the ethical challenges it poses to coaches, athletes, and administrators; and what sustainable reform measures can be taken to curtail it.
