As a lead-up to the performances of Cole Porter’s “Kiss Me, Kate,” on Saturday, Jan. 19, YaleNews has assembled a slide show of images related to Yale’s favorite songster. Most of the material shown here is from Yale’s rich Cole Porter collection. The soundtrack is “Anything Goes” performed by the composer.

The “100 Years of Cole Porter at Yale” kicks off a year of events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the legendary composer’s graduation. Here is a preview of some of the events that are being planned. A more detailed announcement is forthcoming.

On Friday, Feb. 8, starting at 4:30 p.m., Jonathan Edwards College will host a master’s tea and “Fridays at Five” master class featuring Robert Kimball, music historian and editor of “The Complete Lyrics of Cole Porter.” Students in the Shen Curriculum for Musical Theater will perform, and Kimball will speak about Porter’s time at Yale. Later that evening, the Bales-Gitlin Band will play at a Cole Porter Swing Dance at the Graduate Club, from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Admission is $20 ($10 for current students) and includes two vintage cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and demonstrations by Yale student Ballroom and Swing Dance groups. Cash only.
