Auction aims to alleviate hunger and homelessness in New Haven

Student and faculty members of the health and medicine programs at Yale will again join forces this month to raise awareness and money for the hungry and homeless in Greater New Haven.

The 20th annual Hunger and Homelessness Auction will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. in the E.S. Harkness Hall ballroom and Marigolds Lounge on Cedar Street.

Students at the Schools of Medicine and Public Health who were interested in alleviating hunger and homelessness in the Greater New Haven area established the auction in 1993. The whimsical donations — ranging from a wine-tasting trip to a local vineyard to ukulele lessons — are sold to the highest bidder during both live and silent auctions.

Last year, the auction raised over $35,000 to benefit the following organizations:

      Christian Community Action

      Community Soup Kitchen

      Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen

      Domestic Violence Services of New Haven

      Liberty Community Services

      Youth Continuum
