Game Day updates: new traffic plans and student tailgate village

The football game against Colgate on Sept. 29 marks the introduction of new inbound and outbound traffic patterns, and the launch of a Student Tailgate Village.

The Athletics Department announced changes to both inbound and outbound traffic patterns at the Yale Bowl, starting with the Sept. 29 football game against Colgate.

The changes are designed to control heavy traffic in the vicinity of Yale Bowl, create a more efficient way to enter all parking lots, and provide a vehicle-free zone from the general admission parking lot to the Bowl. Read about the traffic updates.

The Sept. 29 game also marks the introduction of the Student Tailgate Village, a new vehicle-free zone designated for both undergraduate and graduate student tailgates. The Student Tailgate Village, located outside Gate C, not only provides a reserved area for students registering as groups and for residential colleges, but also offers entertainment, food, souvenirs, and the chance to cheer on the Bulldogs as the Yale Band leads the team into the stadium.

Programming scheduled for Saturday’s game includes:

• Music by D.J.s R.E. and Big VC, playing ’80s and ’90s hits, hip hop and more;

• Two free beers for students 21 and older (proof of age required);

• Free BBQ (while it lasts);

• Free t-shirts to the first 200 students;

• An inflatable obstacle course, featuring a six-foot wall and a barrel crawl.

Space in the Tailgate Village is available by reservation only; to register, click here.

Shuttle buses will begin running at 8:30 a.m. from campus every 15 minutes, with pickups at the Payne Whitney Gym and at a new location at the corner of Chapel and York Streets. The shuttle drop-off point is next to the Tailgate Village.

Kickoff is at noon.
