Food and wine festival returning to tennis tournament

Tennis fans with a passion for fashion, fine wine, and flavorsome food can indulge their diverse desires in one venue when the New Haven Food & Wine Festival returns as part of the New Haven Open at Yale, presented by First Niagara, to be held Aug. 17-25 in the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale on Derby Ave.

Tennis fans with a passion for fashion, fine wine, and flavorsome food can indulge their diverse desires in one venue when the New Haven Food & Wine Festival returns as part of the New Haven Open at Yale, presented by First Niagara, to be held Aug. 17-25 in the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale on Derby Ave.

The festival will include a Grand Tasting and the annual Ladies Day Luncheon and Fashion Show.

Grand Tasting

The fifth-annual Grand Tasting, hosted by renowned cookbook author and chef Jacques Pepin, will take place 5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22 This year’s event will feature wine and spirits from The Wine Thief and dishes from over 20 of New Haven’s international, award-winning restaurants including: 116 Crown, Barcelona, Basta Trattoria, Caseus, The Cask Republic, Claire’s Corner Copia, Geronimo, Heirloom, Ibiza, John Davenport’s, Kitchen Zinc, L’Orcio, Miso, Oaxaca Kitchen, Pacifico, Soul de Cuba, Thali, Thali Too, Union League Cafe and Zinc.

Tickets are $125 and include a box seat ticket to session 7.

Luncheon and Fashion Show

The Vineyard Vines Ladies day Luncheon & Fashion Show will take place 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursay, Aug. 23. The luncheon, hosted by Island Time, will feature a special menu created by chef Claire Criscuolo of New Haven’s Claire’s Corner Copia, one of the pioneers of the local sustainable movement. Island Time will also debut Vineyard Vines  “back to school” fall styles following lunch. 

Tickets ($100 for individuals, $570 for a table of six) include a box seat tennis ticket for session 8, a gift bag, and a chance to win a door prize.

Reminder: ticket savings for Yale community

Faculty, staff, and students will receive 25% off individual box seats for the New Haven Open at Yale, with preferred seating on the north baseline. These seats regularly go for $55 for session 1 (Aug. 19) and rise in price throughout the tournament, peaking at $91 for the final round.

Yale community members can also purchase middle-tier seats for $15 during sessions 1-12 (Aug. 19-25). These seats normally begin at $19 and peak at $44.

In addition, $2 of every middle-tier ticket that is purchased will be donated to the Smilow Cancer Hospital Breast Center at Yale-New Haven.
