Citation: David Everett Chantler Award, 2012

Established by Mrs. Frederick J. Robinson in memory of her brother, David Everett Chantler (B.A. 1910) of Pittsburgh, PA.  This award is to be presented in the spring to that graduating member of the Senior Class who has best exemplified qualities of courage, strength of character, and high moral purpose. This year’s award goes to Brett Smith, of Ezra Stiles College.

BRETT SMITH

Brett, after you sustained life-threatening injuries in a 2003 automobile accident, you returned to Yale and, with enormous courage and unparalleled commitment, you have completed your Yale College education.   In the process, you have made a name for yourself, not as a starting quarterback for the Bulldogs — the glory you once envisioned — but as a valiant and tireless student, a passionate supporter of Yale athletes and friends, an inspiring role model for those with lesser challenges, and as an undergraduate of all-around sterling character. For your inspiring will and courage in doing what few thought you could,Yale takes great pride and pleasure in awarding you the David Everett Chantler Award.
