July 8, 2005 — Yale School of Nursing (YSN) has moved from 48th to sixth among nursing schools nationwide in support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research, training and fellowship activities, according to rankings released recently by the NIH.

“This rise from 48 in 1994 is an extraordinary accomplishment and reflects the caliber of YSN faculty and the leadership of Associate Dean for Scholarly Affairs, Margaret Grey,” said Acting Dean Katherine Jones. “We have much of which to be proud. This particular success is quite stunning given its achievement in such a brief period of time.”

The school’s leadership in 1994 committed to the development of a doctoral program and to the development and support of a research-intensive environment. Investments included opening the Office of Research Affairs, hiring an associate dean for Research Affairs, adding incremental research support staff, and dedicating space and equipment.
