Forum on the Future of Scholarly Publishing to be Held at Yale

A forum on open access to peer–reviewed research articles and the dissemination of published research will be held from 3–5 p.m. on Thursday, February 10 in Harkness Auditorium of the Yale School of Medicine at 333 Cedar Street.

The purpose of the forum is to discuss the future of research publishing and to examine new scholarly publishing models. Dissemination of published research and access to peer–reviewed research articles is an important issue for the entire academic community.

The forum will provide an opportunity for lively discussion of the implications of these new publishing models with Milton Corn from the National Institutes of Health PubMed Central and Barbara Cohen, the senior editor of the Public Library of Science as well as members of the Yale University faculty and library system.

Yale Provost Andrew Hamilton, Ira Mellman, Sterling Professor and Chair of Cell Biology, and Jack Sandweiss, Donner Professor of Physics will speak for the Yale faculty. Mellman and Sandweiss also serve as research journal editors. Ann Okerson and Alice Prochaska will represent the Yale University Library system.

Light refreshments will be served in the Harkness Auditorium foyer from 2:30 to 3 p.m. The forum is sponsored by the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library, the Kline Science Library, and the Yale Library’s Integrated Access Council.
